ROKT - not a hoax!

Carl has been to visit ROKT:

"Being nosy, I thought it time to go have a look. So off we go to Brighouse this Saturday afternoon.
We were made very welcome (and a cup of coffee) and given a complete guided tour, from top to bottom. And I think I saw Blackpool Tower (or was it Emley Moor mast?) from the 'summit' of the main competition leading wall (not built yet, but the space is Gouffre Berger, if you'll allow the hyperbole).
Jaw-dropping.

There are so many nooks and crannies, rooms, caves, alcoves (yes, and silos) that it will take about six visits before you've found every zone. As in: "oh look another bouldering room with suspended stalactites... how come I never saw that before".

There were loads of busy guys, screwing it all together, T-nuts, panels, beams, all flying around. It will be a hectic race to get it open for March but I feel sure that some of the tastiest bits will be ready for action. By next winter, it could well be ranking alongside the biggest and best in Britain. Think of the complexity of The Castle... and then triple the height!
But for me, I think the best bit was the attitude of the guys in charge. Leigh and Euan are very receptive to ideas, very willing to talk about their project and, in so doing, create very strongly the feeling that you'll really want to 'belong' to this development. The words 'climbing community' rather than 'business venture' came to my mind very strongly.

So, good luck with the build, guys: no hoax: see you in March."

Twitter Conditions Feed

A new feature on the website is a Twitter feed for conditions at local crags, website updates and local climbing news. You can either follow @KirleesClimbin on Twitter or just check on the Twitter Conditions Feed page on here. If anyone local to another crag in the area would like to contribute to this please get in touch.

Holmfirth Edge Parking

Following a recent meeting with the owners of the crag and the local residents, climbers were asked to be more careful when parking not to block drive ways or park in front of people houses.

When visiting the Cliff please park away from the houses at the foot of the track as the residents there have problems parking.

There is plenty of parking back up Cliff Road towards its junction with Cliff Lane, which is better, away from any houses and also provides a little warm up walk in.

New Monster Stamina Circuit at Huddersfield

Now's the time!

It might not feel like Spring yet, but it’s actually not too far off the ‘Routes’ season. You've done enough of those 3-move power problems this winter; time now to get some serious stamina-training done instead!

To help you with this, there’s a brand new circuit at Huddersfield. The 113 move monster should do wonders for your routing… if you get stuck into it NOW! Look for the yellow-tags (001-113) crossing most parts of the bouldering walls. It weighs in at around F7c so by the time you’re doing laps on this, you’ll be ready for a good season outdoors. Enjoy.

C.W.I.F.

The weekend of the 5th and 6th of March 2011 sees the annual Climbing Works International Festival.

It's an open to all, free to enter (normal CW entry fee applies), bouldering competition. You can go head to head with the best boulderers around. There are free physio sessions, a free BBQ on the Sunday and free after parties on both the Saturday (CWIF climbdown at ShAFF) and Sunday night (Broadfield Pub).

If you just want to watch and can't make it down to the Works it will be broadcast live on the internet from the Climbing Works website.
